Days before I moved from Nova Scotia, I took a last wander around the retired military base that had been my home for the past year. It is an interesting mix of distinction and decay. Here are the first pics I've edited - more are to come.
This old propeller is 12 feet in diameter.
Industries come and go from the retired base. You can buy a huge building for $5, but extensive required repairs and taxes of over $10,000 a year per building make it a bad investment for many potential businesses. With the right government reforms and incentives, Cornwallis base could be a major industrial center in southern Nova Scotia, providing much-needed high quality jobs for this depressed area.
Cornwallis was a training base for many years, thus the motto 'Learn to Serve'. A great phrase for describing servant leadership.
