My First Saskatchewan Roughriders Game

As a newcomer to Regina, I immediately noticed two things: the incredibly photo-friendly skyline (Saskatchewan is known as 'Land of the Living Skies), and the city's intense love for its CFL team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

To live in Regina is to be a Roughriders fan. I think it may be illegal to not be. On game days, everyone from casual labour workers to high octane business types sport Riders apparel, a phenomena known as 'Green Fridays'. Roughrider merchandise is so hot, it is the third highest selling in Canada of all pro sports, behind only the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiennes. Not bad for a city of 200,000.

Attending my first Roughriders game earlier this month was a treat. I have never seen such team spirit! Everyone was wearing green, and the fans cheered every play. Even better than the game itself was photographing some of the crazy fans. Check out these pics!

Pregame - green as far as the eye can see!

I love that this menagerie comes complete with a parrot!
