Painting with Light

I decided to experiment with painting with light tonight.  I googled it, and found this neat example on Flickr.  I have no idea how he did it, and even less now that I've tried it!

While I didn't get the results I expected, I kinda like these shots!

I used an old champagne glass filled to the brim with Canada Dry and cranberry cocktail.  The background was a piece of white printer paper.

To get the blue light, I used a small LED flashlight, with my white balance set on tungsten (yellow household lights).  I used a red laser pointer for the painting effects.

If I were to do this again, I'd either get more bubbles in the glass, or not use a carbonated drink at all.  The bubbles I do have look like faults in the glass.

This is my favorite shot. I didn't use the laser pointer, and held the flashlight against the wall above the glass.  I like the dramatic shadows!
